A toast for 2014!

Ok everybody, after this post you're going to think me very strange. Oh wait, you probably already do.

A friend of mine, Jacob, is trying to do this thing on Google plus. He's trying to get everyone to eat toast as the ball drops in NY tonight. So if you're staying up tonight, support Jacob and his strange but delicious idea! I know its different, but we're crazy and you should do it because toast is good! (I strongly recommend it with orange marmalade)

Check it out here.

Hope you all have a wonderful New Years Eve and New Years Day, and I hope that your new year brings wonderful times creating wonderful memories.
(I used the word "wonderful" three times in that last sentence. I'm too repetative.)

Laughing gas doesn't always make you laugh

Yesterday I had oral surgery. I had this one adult tooth that wasn't coming in and so they had to cut open the roof of my mouth and get it out to where it belonged. It was quite and experience.

To be honest, I don't remember much of it. They put me under during the procedure. I remember getting there and I remember the nurse bringing me to the room where they would do the surgery. She asked me a few questions then told me to sit down on the big chair. She leaned it all the way back and put some blankets on me. Then she showed me a mask and told me she was going to give me laughing gas through the mask. After she told me that, I started freaking out because I had heard stories of people who are given laughing gas and start laughing uncontrollably. But luckily, all it did was relax me. Then the doctor came in with a bunch of other nurses. The nurses started running around, getting everything ready. I can't even remember what the other nurses looked like, except one who was right next to me getting the tools ready. The doctor gave me a shot on my arm that was going to help me get to sleep. I remember him asking me questions like where do you go to school, are you on break, when do you go back, etc. The last thing I remember is that nurse who had been standing next to me with the tools saying, "Ok, open your mouth."

Then everything went black and I could hear the nurse who had first led me into the room saying, "Ok, Abigail, you're all done!' I opened my eyes and the first thing I noticed was that I was hooked up to an IV pole. I was still super groggy and I don't think I really knew why it was there. I vaguely remember asking what it was, even though I very well knew what it was. I only kind of remember her answer. Then the nurse took all the blankets off and helped me over to the recovery room. I remember it was more like a hallway, with a recliner, a wheelchair, and a curtain closing everything off for privacy. I can't even remember what color the recliner was. Black, I think. Maybe brown?

The nurse helped me into the recliner and put another blanket on me and laid the recliner back. Then she left to go get my mom. I think I may have fallen back asleep. I woke up again when I heard my mom's and the nurse's voices coming down the hall. The first thing that came to me head was, "When did my sweater get here?" I had taken it off before the surgery and it somehow was back on me at that point. Then my mom and the nurse came back and I kind of remember them talking. Then the nurse helped me into a wheelchair and brought me back to the car. I only remember bits and pieces of the wheelchair ride. I remember being wheeled down the hall and I remember getting into the car, but not much in between.

It all feels like a dream. It's really weird, to not be able to remember most of your day. Last night I lay in bed trying to remember and thought, "This happened to me today. How can I forget all of it?" I've been in bed ever since, tracing the newly-formed lump on the roof of my mouth with my tongue.

The weird thing is, the doctor said that while I was under, he would say things like, "Turn your head more towards me," "Lift your chin up higher," "Open your mouth wider," and I did it! While I was under! I have no recollection of doing this. Although, my head was in a different position when I woke up than when I went under...

My post-Christmas post because I was too lazy to post on the actual day

IM SORRY BUT I WAS BUSY OKAY???

I look at all the other blogs I follow and they did these wonderfully written posts about Christmas while I was stuffing my face with chocolate, trying to beat my cousin's score on Diner Dash, and opening my new moccasins (I got them in black!!!). Yes, my dear readers, I got Minnetonkas from my mother! I believe I posted about Minnetonkas a while back... I also got earrings, makeup, candy, a notebook, the card game "Quiddler", and a fancy picture frame, which currently has no picture in it, but will soon.

We had our cousins over, as I mentioned. This is always chaotic because if all of my family, Maddie's family, and my grandparents are in our house, there is a grand total of twelve kids and six adults. So, eighteen in all. And my house is small. And many of these kids are seven or under.

On Christmas day, we opened our stockings and then we went to Mass in the morning at the college near my house. After that we came home and ate a delicious breakfast that my mom had made. Then it was present time. Sadly I can't tell you what I got for my mom because something happened and it wont get here until Monday. But, I did get my dad a Patriots apron!

One of my favorite moments from Christmas day was after dinner. Me, Maddie, her older brother Max (who claims he's a year older than me, but don't listen to him; he's actually only 364 day older), Lanie, Blaze, Penguin, and my younger cousin Phil were all cleaning up in the kitchen. Actually, Penguin and Phil were goofing off more than they were cleaning... Max washed the dishes, Lanie and Maddie dried, and Blaze and I put away. We had my dad's wireless speaker and Max's iPod out and were singing along to a bunch of stupid songs. But we didn't really care that the songs were stupid; it was fun to be together, working together and having fun together.

Last night, Maddie, Lanie and I watched the movie Divergent. A lot of my friends had encouraged me to watch it before, and so I was eager to see it (even though I haven't read the book. Shhh). I was slightly disappointed though. The ending was disappointing, it was a little too dark for my tastes, and the plot in general was confusing. But that may be due to the fact that I haven't read the book and/or that we missed the beginning of the movie. Maybe I should try reading the book and then watching it again to see if I can understand it better.

My holiday was very blessed and fun and wonderful, and having family there to share it with me made it all the better. I hope yours was equally amazing, and I also hope you remembered to keep Christ in Christmas! Because without Christ, we have no Christmas.

Before I go:

My new mocs!!

I know you'll do your very best to ignore the giant holes in my jeans. Thank you.

My new notebook

My new miss-matched earrings

Merry Christmas!
(And don't tell me that Christmas is already over; Christmas lasts for twelve days! Ever heard of the song The Twelve Days of Christmas?)

Hotels and TWO MORE DAYS!!!!!

So. My family is staying in a hotel. We're staying until tomorrow, Christmas Eve (exciting! Christmas is in two days!!!)

The hotel is pretty nice, actually. Our suite is bigger than we expected, plus the hotel serves breakfast and dinner. Penguin's especially excited about that little fact.

I never sleep very well in a new place, so I wasn't surprised last night when I had trouble falling asleep. I slept with Lilian on a mattress on the floor. Lilian squirms in her sleep. A lot. So that didn't help. At least I wasn't Mary Rose; she slept on two chairs pushed together (she volunteered to sleep there. That was quite surprising.) The boys shared the sofa bed and were wrestling for more bed room all night. Ronnie very happily slept on the sofa cushions on the floor.

This morning, I woke up at six-fortyish and dressed and went down to breakfast with the boys. The hotel has a very nice selection of teas, from which I chose chamomile, and then proceeded to put too much cream and honey in it.
Now, Blaze and Penguin and I are in our room while the rest of the family is downstairs eating. I ate too may waffles.

Tomorrow, Maddie and her family come! I'm super excited! I have almost all of my presents ready, but some of them haven't come yet. I'm hoping they get here by tomorrow so I don't have to give anyone a card on Christmas day: Merry Christmas! Your present hasn't arrived yet, but you're going to love it! Patience is a virtue you know...
Please hurry up, presents...

Theres a chance I may not post again until after Christmas day, so I'll say it now: Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you have a wonderful holiday, filled with family, friends, Christmas carols, and lots of love for each other. Remember to keep Christ in Christmas!!

Pictures from today and from a week ago

CA winter sunsets are so dang pretty!! These are from tonight.

In other news, I'm sick. I hate being sick, even if it's just a cold. More importantly though, I lost my voice. Last night I was singing a lot, more than usual (if possible). And so now I'm paying the price. Joy.

Oh, also, we're down to four fish. Felix and Finn have both died and I can't say I'm sad. Fish are fun, for a few minutes. After about a week, they get tiring.
We're not really a pet family... My List of Pets I've Accidentally Killed is slowly expanding. XD

This coming week is going to be pretty crazy, so forgive me if I don't post very much. My family is going on a mini vacation for a few nights, then our cousins are coming over on Christmas Eve and staying through the rest of the week I think. Then next Monday I'm going to have my oral surgery done Monday morning, and I'll probably sleep through the rest of the day after because of the stuff that they inject in you that makes you sleep.

Now before I go, I know these are a bit overdue, but here are some pics from the fair last week:

Why I love to write/read

I make mistakes. Sometimes, big mistakes. Maybe, it wasn't even a mistake, maybe it was something I did that will haunt me forever.
Raise your hand if you've ever made a mistake.
Psst! Raise your hand!

I'm not perfect, nobody is. But still some choices haunt you in life, even if they weren't necessarily bad choices. They still creep around in the back of your mind, making your stomach do somersaults and your heart drop.

I guess thats why I love writing so much. There are characters here that I can create and love. My characters make mistakes. Ever met *Toni?
Oh, hi, I'm here.
Toni, in your story, did you make a mistake?
...Maybe...
Toni, I'm waiting...
Okay, yes I made a mistake.
See?

Writing your own story, with your own characters, it brings you to a different world. A world where you can leave all your knots and mistakes and mess ups behind and do something else. Be someone else. Live somewhere else.
I read this book a while ago called Kira-Kira. It's one of the best books I've ever read. I wasn't reading words off of a page anymore; I was Katie, going through one of the toughest childhoods I've ever read about. I felt her pain, her happiness, her thoughts, her feelings. Isn't that what every writer strives for? To create a story that takes you away and plays with your emotions so they become the emotions of the character in the book? I cried so hard after reading Kira-Kira.

So, sometime's reality doesn't work out the way you'd like it to work out. Everyone experiences this. My advice: get out of reality for a while!

I digress.

I MAAAAAAAADE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I FIIIIIIIIIIIINSIHED!!!!!!!!!!!!

My presentation went really well! The fourth, fifth, sixth, and tenth graders all came around to look at our boards, our research, and all that. They asked me a ton of questions, some of which I didn't know, but I knew most of them. Then my science teacher came around to each of us and asked us questions and I thought, Oh dang, she's going to stump me, I'm going to get a horrible grade on this and I worked and stressed over this presentation for weeks! But I surprised myself. I knew the answer to every question she asked me. She even told me after that I had a good presentation! I'm so glad it's over...

So now Blaze and I are home alone and I'm going to relax with a cup of tea and be happy it's Christmas break.

*Toni is a character I'm currently working with. I'm still trying to undo all the knots in her story.

Exams are horrible

I DID IT!!!!!!!
I'M DONE!!!!!!!!!
ALMOST!!!!!!!!
ALMOST IS CLOSE ENOUGH THOUGH, RIGHT?

I have all my exams completed!! All I have to do now is present my parakeet project tomorrow morning and I will be GOOD! Until school starts up again in a few weeks.

But seriously, I've been stressing so much the past week, it feels so good to have it all (most of it all) behind me. Today was my history exam, and I am NOT good at history, but I think I did alright. I'm not very good at memorizing names and dates and events that happened centuries ago... It all blurs together. Nero, Constantinople, 410, Charlemagne.... It seems all like fiction, like stories that should begin with, "A long time ago, in a whole separate world far, far away... Constantine moved the capital to Constantinople... Rome got destroyed.... The  Battle of Tours..." and on, and on, and on, because history never really stops. As longs as the clock keeps ticking, history keeps marching, and some day, fifteen year old girls are going to be reading about stuff that happened today and look at it like it's fiction.
History isn't my forte.
Instead of an english exam, we had a seminar today on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. It was two hours long, but it felt shorter. We could have talked about it for hours. I love doing seminars. I don't really understand the play, though.I mean, I liked it, a lot actually, but every character is an idiot in their own special way. The Nurse, Romeo (especially, in my opinion), Capulet, Tybalt, the list goes on. Romeo, you're sixteen.  Get a grip on yourself!
(Is it normal that I talk to fictional people? Yes, yes it is.)

It was raining hard last night! With thunder and lightning and everything! I woke up to thunder at 1:30 AM and wanted to stay awake to listen to the rain and thunder and watch for lighting, but I was barely awake and plus it's exam week and I'm always tired during exam week.
I'd better go start preparing for my presentation tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Oh, and to all you who prayed for me on my finals, THANK YOU!
